In September of 2016, PhotoPad introduced a dark theme making it the first product developed by NCH Software that implemented a dark-themed interface. This type of interface is particularly useful when editing images in batch form. This interface includes a history and layers bar allowing users shortcuts to their preferred filters. In contrast to similar photo editors, PhotoPad displays a multi-layered interface. PhotoPad introduced a mobile version for the Android operating system in 2014. In December of 2013 PhotoPad released a paid version for Windows and Mac platforms in addition to maintaining the free versions.
